Eugene Onegin, a Russian opera based on the novel by writer Aleksandr Pushkin, considered a classic of universal literature and brought to the stage by composer Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, will premiere on March 15 in the city of Holguin.
The cast is made up of voices from the “Rodrigo Prats” Lyric Theater, the soprano Isabel Torres and the baritone Carlos Manuel González in the titular roles of Tatiana and Oneguin, Jorge Luis Peña Alonso González as the Foreman of the Peasants, the special performances of the baritone Alfredo Más in the skin of Prince Gremin and the soprano Liudmila Pérez López in the role of Larina, Tatiana’s mother.
Also noteworthy is the participation of soloists from the Havana lyrical movement as guest figures, such as the mezzo-soprano Giselle Polanco in the role of Olga and Lenski, assumed by the tenor Jorge Luis Guzmán.
Another attraction of this Holguin premiere will be the performance of the Holguin Symphony Orchestra in the execution of the score, under the musical direction of its head, maestro Orestes Saavedra, in addition to the Choir and Ballet of the Holguin lyric company.
Eugene Onegin, Tchaikovsky’s opera based on the novel by the poet, playwright and novelist Pushkin, founder of modern Russian literature, where moments of intense drama and tragedy converge, will have its only performance with choreography, staging and artistic direction by Helson Hernández, on Saturday, March 15 at 8:00 p.m. in the main hall “Raúl Camayd” of the Cultural Complex Teatro “Eddy Suñol”, a stage that will be transferred to the nineteenth century, year 1820 where the story takes place.
This show produced by the “Rodrigo Prats” Lyric Theater, whose general direction is by the soprano Liudmila Pérez, is the closing of the 1st Russian Day in the city of parks, under the auspices of Holguin institutions: Provincial Council of Performing Arts, Provincial Directorate of Culture, as well as CMBF National Musical Radio.
