Cuba with obstacles in film production with foreign capital

The Minister of Culture, Alpidio Alonso, asked the Cuban Film Commission to present with immediate assessments on the obstacles that today slow down the attraction of foreign capital to film and audiovisual production in the archipelago.
The president of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC in the Spanish acronym) Alexis Triana, published on his Facebook account that this issue was analyzed the day before, in Havana, during the first meeting of the representatives of the agencies of the Central State Administration that make up this mechanism.

The call, which was also attended by the president of the Institute of Social Communication (ICS in the Spanish acronym) Alfonso Moya, was associated with the need to capture sources of income for the recovery and sustainability of the national screen, Triana’s text indicated.

According to the statement, the meeting presented the processes that the ICAIC and the ICS initiated to achieve the functioning of the Film Commission, under the protection of the publication in the Official Gazette of Cuba of the concepts and rules that support the promotion of the film destiny of the Antillean nation.
The first projects were also shown, as well as possible co-productions and services, which can be provided in coordination with the different entities represented in this state body.

The head of Culture of Cuba valued as positive the experiences that the ICAIC is having at this time with foreign production companies and its linkage with the Audiovisual Creation Collectives that work independently.
Likewise, it urged to present proposals that increase economic income in this industry in the Latin American region, the note said.

The working session was attended by representatives of the Ministries of Tourism, Foreign Trade, Foreign Affairs, the General Customs of the Republic, the Festival of New Latin American Cinema and the new Coordination Office of the Film Commission at the ICAIC.
