The XV Havana Biennial ends today consolidating itself as the largest event of the plastic arts in Cuba, transforming stages and the city with pieces by national and foreign creators.
The day will begin with an academic meeting where the bulletins and newscasts that have accompanied the event in the last four months will be presented.
In addition, the teaser of this edition’s documentary, a preview of the catalogue and an announcement of the main ideas for the next Biennial, to be held in 2027, will be presented.
According to the organizers, it is intended to be a day of meetings and exchange that leads to a harmonious activity under the auspices of the Wilfredo Lam Cultural Center.
An invitation to celebrate art and being together is the main aim of the festivity, the culmination of an event that has been taking place since last November, under the premise of Shared Horizons.
The Biennial is recognized as one of the most significant and sui generis artistic events in the countries of the so-called Global South, far from hegemonic models, and in this edition 172 Cuban artists and 230 foreigners from various continents have participated.
Each chapter of the Havana Biennial fostered a retrospective and decolonizing vision through a dialogue between creators from Asia, Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean.
Not a few activities of the current edition greeted the birth of Wifredo Lam (Sagua La Grande, Cuba, 1902 – Paris, France, 1982), a source of inspiration for these events and recognized as the most universal Cuban painter.
