The Russian opera “Eugenio Onegin”, based on the novel by writer Aleksandr Pushkin, will premiere on March 15 at 8:00 p.m., local time, in the Raúl Camayd hall of the “Eddy Suñol” Theater Cultural Complex, in the city of Holguin.
The work is considered a classic of universal literature and was brought to the stage by the renowned composer Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, one of the most transcendental musicians of his country, who together with Pushkin appear among the most important figures in the history of Russian culture and illustrious representatives of romanticism.
The show in the eastern province will be starred by voices from the “Rodrigo Prats” Lyric Theater, the soprano Isabel Torres and the baritone Carlos Manuel González in the titular roles of Tatiana and Oneguin.
Jorge Luis Peña Alonso will play the Foreman of the Peasants, and will also feature special performances by baritone Alfredo Más, in the skin of Prince Gremin, and soprano Liudmila Pérez, assuming the role of Larina, Tatiana’s mother.
Also noteworthy is the participation of soloists from the Havana lyrical movement as guest figures, such as the mezzo-soprano Giselle Polanco, in the role of Olga, and the tenor Jorge Luis Guzmán, in the role of Lenski.
Another of the attractions of this Holguin premiere will be the performance of the Holguin Symphony Orchestra in the execution of the score, under the musical direction of its head, maestro Orestes Saavedra, in addition to the Choir and Ballet of the Holguin lyric company, informed the artistic director Helson Hernández, who also assumed the choreographies and staging.
In “Eugene Onegin”, the opera by TChaikovsky based on the novel by the poet, playwright and novelist Pushkin, founder of modern Russian literature, moments of intense drama and tragedy converge, from a duel between two men, who were united by friendship, to the illusion of love disturbed by its impossibility.
With production by the Lyric Theater “Rodrigo Prats” and general direction by the soprano Liudmila Pérez, this show will be the closing of the First Russian Day in the city of Holguin.
