As part of the activities for the 53rd anniversary of the National Union of Health Workers (SNTS in the Spanish acronym), recently celebrated, in Holguin, the union sections and workers with a more consolidated work in this area of performance were recognized.
Annia Cuenca Montero, general secretary of this union in the territory, highlighted the motivation of the more than 26 thousand members in the province. Which reached the status of Outstanding at the country level and was recognized by the Central de Trabajadores de Cuba in the 86 years of its creation.
“We are next to the General Directorate of Health in the main goals and indicators of our sector in the province with an infant mortality rate of 5.3 per thousand live births, at the end of 2024, the third best in the country. We are in all the tasks assigned to us and above all in the representation, mobilization and organization of our sector at the present time,” the union leader also said.
In the ceremony held, the union bureaus with the most consolidated work and results were recognized, among them those of the Provincial Blood Bank, the 8 de Marzo Maternity Home, the Pedro Díaz Coello and René Ávila Reyes polyclinics, the Health Insurance and Support Unit, the Health Services Company and the Cuban Medical Services Branch.
In addition, affiliates with more than 20 and 25 years of uninterrupted work in the health sector were recognized, among which are Nélida García Escalona, Eugenia Torres Izquierdo, Madelín Almarales Pupo, Milvia Infante Rojas and Idalmis Serrano Gómez.
In particular, the award for Best Bureau of Work Centers in the SNTS of Holguin was won by the union collective of the Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital.
Among the most pressing tasks that occupy the trade unionists in this sector in the current period are the recently concluded Provincial Conference of the SNTS. With a direct delegate who will represent, together with the other selected workers. The territory at the great event, scheduled for the end of this year.
In addition, work is being done on the collection of finances and the Contribution to the Homeland, on mobilization tasks, on food production, on raising the quality of services and in ensuring the safety and health of its workers.
