A Brazilian centenarian couple broke the Guinness World Record this month for the longest marriage in which they are still alive. They are Manoel Angelim Dino, 105, and Maria de Sousa Dino, 101, inhabitants of a rural area of the town of Boa Viagem, in the northeastern state of Ceará, who spent 84 years and 77 days together.
Manoel and Maria were born on July 17, 1919 and April 23, 1923, respectively, in Boa Viagem. Their love story dates back to 1936, when they met while working in agricultural activities. However, it would not be until 1940 that they met again and decided to marry.
The couple worked side by side growing rolled tobacco to support their growing family. Over the years, they raised 13 children (nine of them are living) and the family expanded to include 55 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren, and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Now, in his old age, his days pass in tranquility. Due to his age, Manoel spends most of his time resting and only gets up at night to sit next to his wife in the living room. The couple revealed that the secret to a long and happy marriage is simply love and abstaining from vices in order to have a long life.
