Diagnostic imaging is a valuable work tool when it comes to the medical field. This work coordinated with the academic field allows planning, organizing, executing and evaluating the actions that contribute to the training of a graduate with mastery of technology that make it capable of reaching an accurate diagnosis promptly.
Such reasons gave rise to the joint effort of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin (UCMHo in the Spanish acronym) and the Lucía Iñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital to the Master’s Degree in Medical Imaging Diagnostic Program, the first and only of its kind in Holguin and Cuba.
According to José Cabrales Fuentes, national coordinator of the aforementioned study program, “the idea of the master’s degree arises from the premise of the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP in the Spanish acronym) to give priority to the protection and restoration of the health of the Cuban people.
Therefore, it requires ensuring quality in the training of human resources, especially health professionals.
In this purpose, the university has a great challenge to train better prepared professionals, in tune with scientific progress, where artificial intelligence has taken an important boom.”
“These innovative techniques take into consideration the world of health and above all more tempered to the diagnosis by medical images that are called to be strengthened from the updating of knowledge.
The Master’s Degree in Medical Imaging Diagnosis is conceived in this principle,” said the first and second degree specialist in Imaging.
This academic program contributes to the training of an increasingly competent professional, in correspondence with the development of the strategy proposed by MINSAP and in order to strengthen the quality of care at the three levels of health.
In this sense, the Doctor of Education Sciences argues that the master’s student who opts for this study program will have the possibility of acquiring skills related to the management of the different techniques and equipment for medical imaging, as well as considering the different levels of action based on radiological protection.
In addition, these master’s degree students will be able to design and participate in research projects aimed at diagnostic imaging specifically; to be professors or tutors of academic programs that transcend Imaging, as well as to exhibit qualities that guarantee the mission and the correct management of the patient.
Likewise, they will be able to analyze and communicate the results from professional practice based on what is correct, with the capture, processing, storage and distribution of images, taking into consideration the advances imposed by artificial intelligence.
Another of the considerations that are enriched in the master’s degree is given in handling priority criteria and prioritizing the different methods by images.
The teaching calendar of the Master’s Degree in Medical Imaging Diagnosis is scheduled to start on Monday, May 26 of this year.
It has been designed in such a way that the master’s degree student is able to interpret normal images and detect some pathological findings and prepare their report.
Consequently, the proposal delves into the evolution of artificial intelligence as a novelty in this century to reverse the state of health of the sick patient through the use of key techniques and technologies.
