The 25th edition of the Habanos Festival begins this Monday at the Havana Convention Center, with the attention of the entire global tobacco industry for the highlight of Cuba’s Premium cigars.
More than three thousand entrepreneurs, specialists, producers and enthusiasts, linked to the tobacco world and from 110 countries will participate from February 24 to 28 in the Festival.
Experts consider Habanos to be the best in the world due to the triple condition of soil, climate and experience of the producers.
At a time when the Cuban tobacco industry presents news and examines trends in the production of these luxury products, some 60 national and foreign firms will have stands for the Trade Fair, which will also be inaugurated today.
That will be one of the main activities of this great festival of the famous premium cigars, which includes visits to tobacco plantations in the Vuelta Abajo area, in Pinar del Río, and to factories of this exportable line located in the Cuban capital.
An international seminar with keynote speeches, the VI edition of the Habanos World Challenge contest and another for rollers, all at the Convention Center, are part of the Festival’s program.
Despite the island’s economic difficulties, the production of cigars, especially Premium or handmade, continues its upward spiral, facing not only financial situations, but also problems left by hurricanes and trances of different edges. The welcome night for the participants in the XXV edition of the Habanos Festival will be dedicated to the 150th anniversary of the famous Romeo y Julieta brand, which emerged in Havana in 1875 and is part of the wide portfolio of cigars marketed in the world by the company Habanos S.A.
The international corporation Habanos S.A., is a leader in the commercialization of these products, but also a leader when it comes to uniting several factors such as the production of leaves, rolling, and the culture of marketing this product that has leading brands such as Cohiba, the first created after 1959.
Precisely, this version of the Festival is dedicated to the 15 years of the Behíke Line of Cohiba, one of the most luxurious and expensive cigars produced on this island, hence the attention of the foreigners who participate in the event. In any case, the Festivas, every year since 1999, means a meeting point and departure at the same time in this sector, and the possibility of knowing first-hand the advances or difficulties of the Cuban tobacco industry.
