The Sultanes of Holguin will face, as visitors, the defending champions Tiburones de Trinidad, from Sancti Spíritus, in one of the semifinals of the XIX National Tournament of Champion Baseball Clubs.
At the Rolando Rodríguez stadium in Trinidad, doubles will be played this Saturday the 22nd, starting at 10:00 a.m., in matches scheduled for seven innings. In case of division of honors, the third and decisive match would take place on Sunday at the facility itself and at the same time, but with nine innings.
The Holguineros defeated the Azucareros de Campechuela 2-0, after claiming the matches for the illegal use of reinforcements, and then in the quarterfinals they defeated the Bravos de Guantanamo 2-1.
For their part, the Trinidad Sharks initially beat the Florencia team (Ciego de Ávila) 2-0 and then the Las Tunas Panthers 2-1.
For this confrontation, the Holguineros have their starters José Antonio Sánchez, José Manuel Rivas and César Concepción ready, as well as, among others, their relievers Jesús Quintán and Jesús Enrique Pérez.
The local team will have left-handers Yoannis Hernández and Ariel Zerquera and right-hander Daniel Reyes as starters, while right-hander Yanielquis Duardo will also be the main reliever.
Among the position players, infielders Rodoloisis Moreno and Iván Ortiz, as well as outfielder Dunieski Barroso, stand out on Trinidad’s roster.
In the other semifinal, the Lobos de Pinar del Río face Cocodrilos de Matanzas.
To successfully challenge the Trinidadians, the Holguineros will have to manage their pitching precisely, as it is the one with the highest average effectiveness among the four teams that will now seek, at all costs, the two places to discuss the title of the Baseball Champion Clubs Tournament.
