The Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology of Holguin will promote greater vector control in 2025 among the measures aimed at preventing dengue and other pathologies transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito.
Gianela Cruz, director of this institution, told the Cuban News Agency that in the eastern territory more than 90 percent of the active foci of the insect are concentrated in communities and homes, therefore health promotion is essential.
She stated that within this strategy it is planned to expand lectures, educational talks, and dissemination of information leaflets, especially in the rainy months where the risk of getting sick increases.
Furthermore, with the support of social and mass organizations, it is essential to promote voluntary work focused on the collection of solid waste and the destruction of abandoned tanks suitable for storing water, in which the female deposits its eggs.
The director, also a second-degree specialist in Hygiene and Epidemiology, said that active screening for feverish symptoms and monitoring of vulnerable population sectors will also be reinforced, as part of the measures in primary health care actions.
This institution will also work to optimize diagnostic methods and develop research that improves medical care protocols and contributes to improving the quality of life of patients. In the eastern territory there is also a multidisciplinary team prepared for the timely treatment of patients with dengue, from community polyclinics to hospital guard units.
The Aedes aegypti mosquito reproduces in clean stagnant waters, the female can lay between 200 and 400 eggs and is the transmitting agent of yellow fever, dengue, chikungunya, Zika, among other pathologies.
