As a space for growth par excellence, the University of Holguin, in 2024 faced a process of preparation and consolidation in view of the institutional evaluation next March.
According to PhD. Marisol Pérez Campaña, vice rector of the institution, this has been a year of great challenges and also of results for Cuban higher education and in particular for this house of high studies.
“In the case of undergraduate education, an example of this is the diversification of enrollment, with a total of 44 degrees. Of which 35 are present in the Day Course, 40 in the Meeting Course and six in Distance Education, as well as ten Short Cycle programs that respond to the demands of the territory; which has increased the possibilities of access to Higher Education in the different scenarios where it is developed”, pointed out Pérez Campaña.
With more than 325 PhDs and the increase of the percentage of professors with higher teaching categories of Titular and Auxiliary, the University of Holguin consolidates the postgraduate formation.
In this regard, the Vice Rector explained that in the postgraduate training process, 43 academic programs will close in 2024. Of these, five are doctoral programs, 30 master’s programs and eight specialties, in addition to a significant number of professional improvement actions (courses, diplomas, training).
“It is worth highlighting the consolidation of doctoral training with the initiation this year of the Doctorate in Engineering Development with six lines of research,” she said.
Likewise, she added that “the process of science, technology and innovation has managed to continue organizing its management through research projects, of which nine are associated to national programs, eight to sectorial programs and 28 with a territorial character, as well as another large number that are not associated, but respond to the demands of the territory”.
Also, the university publishing house reached its tenth anniversary with good results in the positioning of the quality and visibility of the electronic magazines Deporvida, Luz and Tecnología Educativa.
The university outreach to the communities with 25 socio-cultural projects, the work of the 44 Honorary Chairs and the Internationalization process for academic exchange stand out.
Marisol Pérez Campaña concluded that “all this is expressed in a management system oriented to quality and the integration of processes that has allowed 51 programs to be evaluated by the National Accreditation Board, with 34 programs of study holding the category of excellence for 66.7 percent”.
