Ice-cream and canned food factory opens in Holguín province

The local development project Fábrica de Helados y Conservas (Ice-Cream and Canned Food Factory), which started its services this December 26 in the town of Santa Lucía, in the municipality of Rafael Freyre, will contribute to local self-sufficiency and commerce for the population.

Yosvanis Moreno Ochoa, director of the entity, explained that this project emerged in 2019 with the aim of meeting the demands of the inhabitants who suffered from the lack of an industry of their own in the territory.

With a production capacity of 310 liters of ice cream per day, the main object of this work will be social consumption through the sale at reasonable prices to the population, followed by the contribution to sectors prioritized in their attention such as Public Health and Education, in addition to vulnerable groups, he commented.

In this sense, ties were created with gastronomic institutions, among them El Cocal, dedicated to children’s entertainment, to which some of their products will be supplied, as well as a small part will be traded for Tourism, an important economic sphere in that region, he pointed out.

One of the main remaining goals is to achieve the diversification of the elaborations through the use of local raw materials such as goat and cow milk, mango, guava and banana pulp, among others, he said.
