A total of 12 MTZ tractors were recently assembled at the Empresa Mecánica de Holguín Héroes del 26 de Julio industry (Holmeca), as part of the assembly service of agricultural implements and self-propelled machines which, just a year ago, was added to its catalog by the renowned steel-mechanic company, according to a publication of the newspaper Trabajadores.
The article adds that the tractors, which come from Belarus, specifically from the BZTDA company, are 35 horsepower tractors, that is, of medium power, and are designed for small agricultural areas; however, they will be very useful in the hands of Cuban peasants.
According to Félix Batista del Valle, a specialist in Communication and Marketing, “in only four days the tractors were assembled and they are already undergoing handling and maneuverability tests with implements manufactured by our company that are adapted to this model, such as cultivators, two and three-disc plows, small mowers and subsoilers”.
He also states that in the next few days other containers are expected to arrive, which would complete 36 tractors to be assembled; while this action is also expected to be carried out with new models of greater power.
Batista del Valle also points out that the assembly of tricycles, motorcycles and electric bicycles is foreseen soon as part of a business deal with a foreign entity and “negotiations are also underway with other Belarusian companies interested in the assembly of agricultural implements in our facilities”.
Workers emphasize that the work carried out by Holmeca, appreciated by the country’s top management, is the result of a negotiation process that began at the end of 2023 during the Havana International Fair and above all of the willingness of the Holguin company to manage new productions and markets.
