Holguin, new champion of the National Boxing Series

Holguín became this Sunday the new and unprecedented champion of the National Boxing Series after winning the final of the 8th edition, after a 40-point tie, five wins apiece vs Guantánamo, in the seventh and last day of the competition, held at Rafael Fortún multi-purpose hall in the city of Camagüey.

After this result, the Holguin team reached 287 points, an accumulated score unreachable for the defending champion Camagüey, a team that tied 38-38 against Cienfuegos and finished with 271 units in second place.

Among the winners this Sunday on behalf of the Holguin squad were reinforcement boxers from Santiago de Cuba: Jesús Álvarez (48), Luis Vinent (60kg) and Raikol Leonard Reyes (75).

Eduardo Neyra (71 kg) and Jorge Soto (80) were among the winners in this conclusive day.

This title for Holguín is a historic result, since their best performance dated back to 2018 when they finished in fourth place.

The Holguin squad did not lose any poster as before the draw against Guantanamo they successively defeated Sancti Spíritus (6-4), Cienfuegos (6-4), Matanzas (7-3), Pinar del Río (8-2) and Camagüey (6-4). In short, the pugilists from Holguin won 38 bouts and lost 22.

The boxers from Cienfuegos took the third place (253). Behind them ranked Matanzas (226), Guantánamo (215), Pinar del Río (198) and Sancti Spíritus (146).
