The sixth group of the Brigada de Solidaridad con Cuba “Calixto García”, composed of 22 collaborators from Canada, arrived in the country this Sunday at Frank País International Airport in Holguín, where it will begin a tour of the eastern region.
As part of its annual visits, the group, made up of members of the Solidarity Movement, trade unionists and supporters of the Cuban revolutionary process, will carry out a week-long program of activities in the territories of Guantánamo, Santiago de Cuba and Las Tunas, including volunteer work and exchanges in communities and schools.
Yamila Fernandez Dominguez, an official of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP for its Spanish acronym) in Holguín, explained to the CNA that on this occasion the brigade members have among their goals to get to know the people culturally and express their rejection of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United for more than six decades on the Caribbean nation.
In addition, she said that they will pay tribute to the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro Ruz, on the eighth anniversary of his death and will hold community cultural events, named Art versus Blockade, in which they will denounce the interference and extraterritorial nature of this policy.
Among the activities to be carried out during their visit to the province of Holguin are debates with students from various institutions, such as the Raúl Elementary School of Art and the Ronal Andalia Semi-Internship School, both in the provincial capital city, and they will visit the Nicodemo Regalado Hospital, located in Buenaventura, in Calixto García municipality.
Max Tennant, a young member of the solidarity group, expressed his happiness to be on the island for the second time, which he admires so much for its spirit of resistance for decades, its work in caring for all sectors of society and its internationalist character for the sake of a better world.
He also added that it is important to make known the reality of the Caribbean island, a task in which he has participated since his integration to the group and in other initiatives such as the Piquete 24 horas, made up of young Canadians who, through social networks, fight for just causes, among them, the end of the Israeli genocide in Palestine and the removal of Cuba from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism.
Founded on Nov. 29, 2018, by the Holguin delegation of the ICAP, the Calixto García Brigade is also composed of members of the Ernesto Che Guevara coalition and participants of the International Colloquiums for the release of The Five Anti-Terrorist Heroes, who arrive in the country every year at this time to express their support of the country.
