Mayari and Holguin on solid ground to baseball post-season

The teams Alegres of Mayari (12 straight wins), in the Eastern Division, and Sultanes of Holguin (16 wins – 3 defeats) in the Western Division, remain as the leaders of the 47th series of the Provincial Baseball League that is going through a second half very affected by the rains.

Mayari is accompanied by Cafetaleros from Sagua de Tanamo (8-4), Ferroviarios from Cueto (9-6) and Tigres of Báguanos (9-8), while Mineros of Moa (7-7) remains with options to go to the post-season.

Leones de Frank País (3-13) and Tiburores de Antilla, with a single win and 11 defeats have no qualification possibilities.

The situation in the Western Division is more complicated, because although the Sultanes of Holguin are virtually qualified, the remaining seven teams have mathematical options to reach the quarterfinals.

In the privileged segment, along with the defending champions, are Vaqueros from Calixto (13-7), Indios of Banes (10-10) and Colosos from Urbano Noris (9-10).

Then, closing the standings are Mambises of Cacocum (9-11), Navegantes from Rafael Freyre (8-12), Piratas of Gibara and Cachorritos Juveniles (7-13).

The Provincial Baseball Championship is going with more successes than failures, although among the blemishes are the confiscations of two games to the teams of Antilla, Cacocum and Juveniles due to lack of transportation.

Complaints were also received about the deficient attention given by the EIDE management to the participants in the sub-series between Juveniles and Colosos held at the Feliú Leyva stadium on Thursday, November 7.

The efforts of the referees who continue to work voluntarily should be recognized, and so far no game has been suspended due to lack of officials.

For this Wednesday 13 are scheduled the matches corresponding to the thirteenth particular sub-series, when in the Eastern Division Báguanos hosts Antilla; Leones de Frank País hosts Sagua de Tánamo and Cueto hosts Moa, with the day off for Mayarí.

In the Western Division Holguín receives the squad of Juveniles; “Calixto García” hosts Banes; Cacocum hosts Gibara and Urbano Noris visits Rafael Freyre.
