Opportunities in Iberoarte for craftspeople from eastern Cuba

Iberoarte International Crafts Fair is an event of great relevance for the city of Holguin and the eastern part of the country. Its venue, at the ExpoHolguin Fairgrounds, attracts not only local visitors but also artisans from different parts of Cuba and the world.

In its 20th edition, it gathers a large number of exhibitors who come to Holguin with their unique and original creations, showing the diversity and cultural richness that exists in the handicraft art of the Ibero-American region.

The Matos family, from the province of Guantanamo, returns to Holguin once again with their precious wood utensils, useful for the home and, above all, for the kitchen. They know very well that the quality of their products attracts Holguin people.

“The public always waits for me because the objects we bring, which are handmade, have been well accepted. They are useful for the city’s bars and restaurants. The kitchen items are also useful in homes; the people of Holguin always look for us at the fair,” said Inolvis Mato.

The Holguin branch of the Cuban Fund of Cultural Goods was kind enough, in this edition, to celebrate and recognize the talent of the artisans of the province of Santiago de Cuba. From this hot land, full of culture and tradition, is the family of artisans Los Rosales, with whom we talked in this opportunity.

“The Fair is very nice and we are here with the expectation of offering the public our handicrafts and that they may like them. We sell vases for the home, we have items for gifts, small details to decorate, for example, roofed patios and the front of a house. We also have toys, thimbles, puppets and silver jewelry,” explained young artisan Daniela Rosales.

Iberoarte, from northern eastern Cuba, promotes handicrafts as a form of cultural and economic expression. Artisans have the opportunity to make their work known, show it and establish commercial links that allow them to expand their business and reach a wider public.
