For the balance of the world” event begins in Holguín

The José Martí Cultural Society (SCJM for its Spanish acronym), in collaboration with the Center for the Improvement of Culture of the northeastern province of Holguin, is developing since this Wednesday the Provincial Conference “For the Balance of the World”, an event that takes place in the framework of the Day for Cuban Culture, which calls for reflection and analysis on issues of great relevance for culture, education and national identity.

The validity of the thought of José Marti, Cuba’s National Hero, and the tireless search of Cuban researchers, through his legacy, to propose solutions to current problems, as well as to promote unity and solidarity in an increasingly fragmented and divided world, are the objectives of the event organized by the Holguin branch of the SCJM.

The day began with a conference entitled “Fidel Castro and the Assault on the Moncada Barracks: dismantling the historical manipulation”, by PhD. Alexander Abreu Pupo, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Holguin, and member of the Provincial Board of the José Martí Cultural Society Holguin Branch, according to Hector Niles, president of the organization.

The meeting of Holguin intellectuals, followers of José Martí’s thought, is taking place at the Center of Cultural Upgrading, and will continue with the opening of an exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Brigade of Arts Instructors, by Iosvany García Pérez – a member of this entity-, but also an exhibition that seeks to pay tribute to the work of the instructors who have contributed to the nation’s cultural development.

The working commissions will address various topics that seek to promote the exchange of ideas and knowledge among researchers, academics, students and society in general.

The event will also host a panel dedicated to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Casa de Iberoamérica, with the participation of prominent panelists such as MSc. Isairis Rojas Paris, director of this cultural institution, and other specialists who will share their experiences and reflections on the cultural impact of this project in the region.

On the closing day, scheduled for Friday 18, there will be a Marti Youth Forum: “The Fight Against Cultural Colonization. The Defense of National Identity”, which will bring together young thinkers and cultural promoters and students. The Forum will feature panelists such as Reynaldo Zaldívar Osorio, Provincial President of the Marti Youth Movement, and MSc. Eliel Gómez Martínez, President of UNEAC in Holguín.
