As part of the improvement of higher education, the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin accredits the specialty of Hygiene and Epidemiology to strengthen the development of the faculty and have an impact on the integral formation of undergraduate and graduate students.
Gianela Cruz, director of the provincial center dedicated to that front, indicated to ACN that this process is of utmost importance for the functioning of the chair and the faculty, which evaluates the resilience and capacity of health professionals.
She explained that the 21 professors are all doctors of science or second-degree specialists, in addition to master’s degrees, a strength for medical science programs in the province, the third most densely populated in Cuba.
The training of residents, the scientific contributions of the career, the interaction and impact on the community and the use of technological innovation to solve social problems are also evaluated.
From Hygiene and Epidemiology, the programs of HIV-AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections, arbovirosis, chronic non-transmissible diseases and tuberculosis are monitored through research developed in the province, she said.
This specialty dates back to 1982 in Holguin, it is represented in the 14 municipalities of the eastern territory and its fundamental field of action is the health area, the international sanitary control for the prevention of diseases and projects on water quality.
The University of Medical Sciences of Holguin has 62 branches in its different levels of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, which have comprehensive study plans, through facilities provided by the new information and communication technologies.
The accreditation process includes the application of an external evaluation system, aimed at publicly recognizing that an institution or program meets certain quality requirements, according to the Regulations of the Postgraduate Specialties Evaluation System of the Republic of Cuba.
