Science, technology and innovation in Holguin checked

In order to check the development of science, technology and innovation in the province of Holguin, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic Ines Maria Chapman Waugh held a meeting with the Provincial Council of Science and Innovation of the territory.

She was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma), PhD. Armando Rodríguez and Joel Queipo Ruiz, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguín.

In the meeting, the delegate of Citma in the territory, Alejandro Torres Gómez de Cadiz Hernández presented, among the projects, the idea of the Scientific and Technological Park, which will be a space of coordination and management for the scientific and productive activity.

The business incubator and programs related to the computerization of various sectors were also discussed during the meeting.

PhD. Marisol Pérez Campaña, head of Project at the University of Holguín, presented a program for the Balanced Scorecard of the territories and thus analyze the development system of the municipalities contributing in an optimal and intelligent way to decision making.

For his part, the Citma delegate here shared a project on the planting of genetically modified corn for animal feed.

The director, Dr. Agustín Lage, from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, talked via telephone, to ensure the quality in the reproduction of these transgenic plants.

Regarding agro-industrial development, Rafael Valera Llanes, director of the Center for Development of Agricultural Machinery (CEDEMA), presented the project files on Agricultural Production Technologies in Holguin. In this sense, he insisted on the need of financing for the development of many projects that cannot be materialized due to lack of shareholders.

One of the recent innovations made by this company in order to optimize time and humanize work was the creation of a machine that will mechanize the process of planting and harvesting cassava.

Chapman motivated this company to design windmills in order to cover the water supply in small communities, through micro aqueducts, and to improve irrigation in the fields and contribute to greater food production for the population.

Queipo, as a summary of the check-up, called to dust off the scientific research and put it into action in the different companies, which bet on development using science, technology and innovation.
