
The teams from Mayari and Sagua de Tanamo in the Eastern Zone and Holguin in the Western Zone maintained their unbeaten records in the third day of competition of the 47th Provincial Baseball Series, in which rain prevented the conclusion of the second game between the Sultanes of Holguin and the Colosos de Urbano Noris.
The three sweeps of the day took place in the Eastern where the Alegres de Mayarí, as hosts, initially defeated the Mineros of Moa 10×4 with Wilson Paredes (2-0) in the box, accompanied by the offensive of Robín Serrano who hit his third home run and Franklin Aballe, 3-3 and 2 runs batted in. The second success for the Alegres was 4×2 with Yusmel Velázquez (2-0) on the hill.
The Cafetaleros of Sagua de Tanamo enjoyed double wins as visitors at Remigio Marrero ballpark of Antilla, where they started with a 9×2 smile with José Miguel Rodríguez (2-0) on the mound and an outstanding offensive performance by Miguel Castillo, 2- 4 and one run batted in, and closed with a 10×4 score with individual credit to theower Yuliannis Proenza, supported by Luis Raúl Domínguez, with a double, triple and four RBIs in three official innings.
Finally in this Zone, the Ferroviarios of Cueto, as home club, surprised the Tigres of Báguanos with scores of 4×3 and 5×1 and respective wins for Andriu Valido and Vladimir Chades.
In the Western Zone, defending champions Sultanes of Holguín, playing at the Rogelio Pupo Ricardo Stadium in San Germán, won 5×3 with combined work by José Antonio Sánchez (2-0), a save by José Manuel Rivas and outstanding batting by Luis Miguel Santiesteban, 2- 3 with two RBIs. The second game was rained out – tied at four in the seventh inning.
The Piratas of Gibara, visiting Thelmo Esperance stadium, opened with an 11×4 victory with personal credit to Yainer Carralero, a save by Liusdán Concepción and an outstanding offensive performance by Yusnier Pino, 4-3 with three RBIs. Then, the Indios of Banes came back with a 3×0 shutout against Dixán Batista’s record.
Vaqueros of Calixto Garcia and Mambises of Cacocum shared the victories at Luis Figueredo stadium of Maceo town with an initial victory for the former, 4×1, thanks to the combined work of the winner Guillermo Bertolí and Yoidel Catañeda, who saved the game, together with the batting of Michael Álvarez, 2-3.
In the second inning, the local squad triumphed, 5×1, with a smile for Luis Cáser (1-1) and a save for Reinier Morales, who also batted 2-3. For the defeated team, Michael Álvarez went (2-3) and Adelmo Pérez homered for the third time.
Finally, at Pedro Díaz Coello sprts school, the Navegantes of Rafaeel Freyre scored their first victory, 10×4, with Juan Manuel Perdomo in the box, supported by Yoan Palacios, 3-4. For the Juveniles, Yordan Manduley Jr. hit 4-4. At the end of the day, the U18 boys got their revenge, 2×1, with a personal best for Alain Torres.
After three dates of competition, the Provincial Series standings are as follows:
Eastern Zone: Mayarí (6-0); Sagua de Tanamo (4-0); Cueto (4-2), Báguanos (2-2), Moa (2-4), Leones of Frank País (0-4) and Antilla (0-6).
Western Zone: Holguín (5-0); Banes (4-2); Juveniles, Gibara, Vaqueros and Cacocum (3-3), Colosos of Urbano Noris (1-4) and Navegantes of Rafael Freyre (1-5).
