About ten researchers dedicated to the field of Pediatrics in Holguin recently participated in the 29th Congress of the specialty, held at the National Hotel of Cuba, in Havana.
The meeting, which was attended by more than 300 participants in both classroom and virtual modalities, discussed issues related to neonatology, intensive medicine, pediatric emergency and comprehensive care for children and adolescents.
According to one of the participants from the territory in this event, Dr. Alberto Rubén Piriz Azza, head of the Maternal and Child Care Program (PAMI) at the General Directorate of Health (DGS), “Holguín’s was the largest delegation from the eastern part of the country. In my case I presented a research about the introduction of ultrasound, of POCUS, in intensive care units, as a working tool”.
“There we presented the test carried out in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja hospital on the studies through the POCUS of cerebral blood vessels and the measurement of blood flow in these vessels as a tool to work with those children with alterations of the central nervous system due to trauma or diseases that affect the nervous system or who have been operated on for some condition that changes the physiology of the central nervous system.”
As for the papers presented by the Holguin delegation, the professional member of the organizing committee also mentioned that three on-site papers and 12 virtual posters were also presented.
The papers presented consisted of a Protocol for the transfer of surgical newborns to the Regional Center for Neonatal Surgery; the Safety of hospitalized pediatric patients and Theoretical foundations of nursing case management in the management of complex pediatric chronic patients, authored by Eiliana Cruz Gonzalez, Manuel Carralero Figueredo and Yamile Vega Pupo, respectively.
Also addressed was the continued attention to maternal and child health, an essential purpose in the fulfillment of the Sustainable Development Goals.
The 8th International Symposium on Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care, the 1st International Symposium on the Application of Biotechnological Products in Pediatric Ages, the 3rd International Symposium on Child Care and the 1st Cuban Symposium on Breastfeeding and Neonatal and Pediatric Nursing were held simultaneously with the event.
