Martinez Jr. was one of the biggest surprises when the list was announced and has been training for several days at the Latin American Stadium in Havana under the orders of Armando Johnson.

The Cuban’s season with Biloxi Shuckers, branch of his organization in Double-A, was extraordinary to the point of being selected to the all-star team of the Southern League.

During 2024, the 25-year-old player hit .284 in 110 games thanks to 114 hits, including 30 doubles, two triples and thirteen homers, giving him an OPS of .832. He also had 52 runs scored, 62 runs batted in and 20 stolen bases.

For Ernesto Martínez Jr., it was also an achievement to become the first player in the franchise with the Player of the Week award in his circuit in two consecutive weeks (during the close of August and the beginning of September).

Since his debut in 2017 in the Major League system the Holguin native player has totaled 441 games with a .263 average, 50 hits, 223 RBIs, 85 stolen bases and a batting line of (.363 OBP/ .432 SLU/ .795 OPS).
