X-ray digitizers installed in Holguín city

The installation of 15 x-ray digitizers is one of the achievements of primary health care in Holguin province, in the framework of the 40th anniversary of this medical program founded by the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.

Elizabeth Vichara, a second-degree specialist in General Comprehensive Medicine and head of this sector in the province, told the Cuban News Agency that this equipment is installed in the 10 health areas of the city of Holguin and responds to one of the main demands of patients by facilitating radiological examinations.

She stressed that the investment contributes to the introduction of new technologies in the sector and the economic savings in the chemicals needed for developing the conventional X-ray equipment, whose purchase is limited due to the tightening of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government against Cuba.

The modern technology, introduced in stages since 2018, reinforces the quality of medical care, since professionals have access to radiological studies through a database immediately after they have been performed, the expert explained

In addition, conditions are being created in the territory for the generalization of the digital medical record, a necessary step aimed at strengthening the relationship between doctor and patient, which is essential in the follow-up of high-risk populations, added Vichara.

In polyclinics and hospitals, a group of applications are also in operation to improve the processing of statistical data, the organization of admissions, epidemiological surveillance in the on-call corps and the obtaining of medical appointments.

These tools are in addition to the informatization of society, a multisectoral strategy aimed at promoting the use of new technologies among the Cuban population, including e-commerce and payment of services through digital platforms.

The Family Doctor and Nurse Program was created on January 4, 1984, with the aim of bringing the health system closer to the community and solving more than 70 percent of the conditions in the area and has in Cuba more than 11 thousand clinics and 35 thousand professionals linked to this project.
