University of Moa and Karpinsky Institute exchange experiences

In a significant advance in relations and academic collaboration, the A.P. Karpinsky Institute of Geology and Mines of Russia and the University of Moa Dr. Antonio Núñez Jiménez, from Holguín province, have established an agreement that will allow 15 students of Geological Engineering to participate in the international GEO QUIZ contest, which will be held online on September 24.

Engineer Luis Alberto Pérez García, head of the university’s Geology Department, explained that the contest will consist of a series of questions addressed to Geology students, who come from different academic years.

“The event will be held online and completely in English, giving our students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge in the field of General Geology.”

In addition, during this exchange the Karpinsky Classroom will be inaugurated, which will become the second of its kind in Cuba.

Pérez García emphasized that this activity “should give way to a closer collaboration with the Karpinsky Institute and a project aimed at promoting the teaching of geology in Cuba, as well as access to postgraduate scholarships and doctoral training for students is planned”. The initiative is the result of an agreement signed between the two institutions last June.

The A.P. Karpinsky Geological Research Institute is recognized as the main institution of the Federal Agency for Mineral Resources (Rosnedra) of Russia, focusing on regional geological studies. Its work includes state geological mapping and development of geological and geophysical profiling networks.

Founded on January 31, 1882 by decree of Emperor Alexander III, the institute has played a crucial role in the evaluation and management of the country’s mineral resources.

This exchange not only represents a significant advance for Cuban students, but also strengthens ties between Russia and Cuba in the academic and scientific fields.
