The teams of Loynaz Hechavarría, champion of Holguín, and its peer from Granma province, Arquímedes Colina, started their duel in the Eastern Zonal of the Sugar Baseball League with a division of honors in two tight games, played at the ball park of Marcané, in the municipality of Cueto.
The Saturday success went for the local squad of the Loynaz sugar company 2×1, thanks to a decisive home run by catcher Franklin Aballe, in the second inning, to drive in the two runs of his team and support the excellent work in the hill of Rubén Oris, winner, and Carlos Santiesteban saving.
Aballe, as fifth in the lineup, went 3-4, while Michel Gorgüet, as designated hitter and fourth in the lineup, also had three hits in four official innings. The winners produced 11 hits and made no errors.
Thrower Oris pitched five clean innings in the beginning of the game, allowed only two hits, struck out three rivals, walked just one and hit a man (dead ball), while Santiesteban allowed no score in four innings, in which jus a man produced a single, struck out three and barley walked one man.
Yariel Gonzalez that lost the match, was a worthy rival, while Marcos Fonseca – short stop and third man in Granma lineup – went 2-4 and drove in the only run of his team, which committed a defensive error .
Sunday’s game of this Sugar Baseball League, concluded 1×0, was decided by Fonseca with a home run in the eighth inning against reliever César “el pescao” Concepción, to spoil an excellent opening by Stiven Rodríguez, who tolerated only one hit in seven innings.
In short, the winners batted seven hits and made one error, while the losers had six hits and committed a couple of errors.
The victory went to first reliever Liván Suárez and the saved went for Yan Carlos Sánchez, who by the way went 2-4. For the local team, Yulián Concepción hit two doubles in four innings.
This Saturday (September 21), at Graciliano Ramírez stadium in Mabay, municipality of Bayamo, the team that will continue in the baseball event of the Cuban Sugar Basebal League will be decided.
The other confrontation of this Eastern Zonal between the teams of the UBPC of Honduras, from Guantanamo, and the company Paquito Rosales, from San Luis, in Santiago de Cuba, could not be carried out, because the former could not be transported to the untamed headquarters.
