Holguin delegate from the health sector to the 22nd CTC Congress

Miriasly Matos Breff, a nurse with more than 27 years of experience at the pediatric hospital Octavio de la Concepción de la Pedraja in Holguín, was elected the first direct delegate of the health sector in the country to the 22nd Congress of the Cuban Workers’ Confederation (CTC).

Matos Breff expressed that this selection constitutes “a very big commitment and a responsibility with all the workers of the sector”.

Dr. Santiago Badía González, secretary general of the National Union of Health Workers (SNTS), was present on the occasion and mentioned some of the reasons why this institution was chosen to provide one of the direct delegates of the health sector to the great event, scheduled to be held in April 2025.

He argued that the Health sector is scheduled to elect 16 direct delegates and in consultation with Minister José Ángel Portal Miranda, the board of directors and the secretariat did not hesitate to choose the Pediatric Hospital of Holguín because it is a moral collective, it maintains a stable work, it is a reference center for several specialties such as Neurosurgery, Pediatric Surgery, Otorhinolaryngology and Ophthalmology, with territorial services.

The union leader added that the more than 1,300 workers of this hospital perform daily labor feats. It was selected for its health indicators and for what it means for children -both from Holguín and from neighboring provinces- to be assisted by specialists of great prestige.

Miriasly will represent in the proletarian event the more than 33 thousand union members of the health sector in the territory and she also became the first of eight direct delegates that Holguín province will contribute to the CTC Congress, who together with other 62 delegates will make up the representation of this northeastern region in the national event.
