Holguin students demand an end to the blockade against Cuba

Students from Holguin demanded on Wednesday the end of the coercive measures imposed on their country by the government of the United States of America, as part of the start of the International Champaign for Peace, against the economic, financial and commercial blockade against Cuba and Terrorism.

The “Pedro Díaz Coello” School of Economics, in the city of Holguin, hosted the opening ceremony of the activities organized annually by the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP for its Spanish acronym), which will continue until the new vote of the United Nations (UN) Assembly for the cessation of the interference policies against the Caribbean nation.

Lupe Fernandez Ramirez, ICAP delegate in Holguin, explained to the Cuban News Agency that the objective of this event, since its creation, is to achieve the unity of the countries in order to comply with the principles and rights of every human being, among which justice, equity and mutual respect stand out.

Among the special motivations of this edition is the demand to the Zionist government of Israel to put an immediate end to the genocide of the Palestinian people, as well as the rejection of the blockade suffered by the Caribbean nation and its elimination from the list of countries sponsoring terrorism, she said.

To achieve this purpose, they receive the support of more than a thousand solidarity organizations from all over the world, which replicate initiatives such as this one in which emphasis was placed on the educational sector with the participation of different levels of education, she pointed out.

Fernandez Ramirez pointed out that within its broad work plan there are several political and cultural activities in remembrance of anniversaries, among them, the 26th anniversary of the arrest of the Five Heroes, the 48th anniversary of the Crime of Barbados (Cuban plane mid-air blast) and the 57th anniversary of the kill in action of Ernesto Guevara.

She also added that they will hold the traditional event “Tents for Peace”, the Cuba-Puerto Rico solidarity meeting “From one bird the two wings”, organized with the collaboration of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (Uneac) and several exchanges in communities, work and study centers.

The International Campaign for Peace, against the blockade of Cuba and Terrorism is celebrated every year since September 4 in evocation of the young Italian Fabio di Celmo, murdered on that day in 1997 at the Copacabana Hotel, victim of a wave of terrorist attacks targeting tourist facilities in the country.
