Holguin thanks for donation of “My love for you” Project

The management of the Lucía Íñiguez Landín Surgical Clinical Teaching Hospital in Holguín thanked the donation of the first 50 bulbs of the special anesthetic Dexmedetomidine, in charge of the socio-humanitarian Project “Mi amor por ti” (My love for you), from Mayarí, whose coordinator, Jenny Guanche Ramírez, conveyed the commitment of the solidary supplier to increase deliveries in the future.

Dr. Luis Mario Carrasco Feria, director of the hospital -founded on November 28, 1998-, highlighted this gesture of solidarity, adding that “more than the quantity, what is important is the human value of being able to count on such a special medicine that does not exist in our medical institution”.

In similar terms, the surgical vice-chancellor, the head of the anesthesiology and resuscitation service, as well as other members of the management team and specialists present, acknowledged that, given the benefits of this unique and versatile drug, with multiple applications in critical patient care and anesthesiology, it was decided to put it in the hands of Dr. Rosalía Cuenca Torres, a fourth-year resident in the specialty of anesthesiology and resuscitation, to investigate its effectiveness in the anesthetic-surgical process, as part of her thesis as a resident in the specialty of anesthesiology and resuscitation. Guanche – with vast experience as an intensivist nurse and accompanied on this occasion by two members of the steering group of her project, created to support the health sector in the donation of medicines, supplies and some equipment – informed that Dexmedetomidine is patented and purchased directly from the suppliers, as testified by the supportive friend, who was informed directly during the meeting by the project’s translator.

The coordinator of the Project, made up of people convinced that loving is nothing more than growing and with love hope is reborn, acknowledged the close ties with the local government, the Public Health Department, religious institutions and Radio Mayarí, which have facilitated the operation of the group and the donations made to people and institutions in other localities of the municipality of Mayarí, the hospital of Moa and the provincial pediatric hospital Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja in the municipality of Holguín.

It distinguishes the differentiated attention to people in serious condition and others with chronic ailments, sick children and the elderly, providing them with rechargeable vacuum cleaners, nebulizers and other means, including recently three wheelchairs and 17 walkers.
