National Historians’ Day concludes in Holguin

In recognition of the work carried out by the branch of the Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC) in Holguin, the national closing ceremony of the Day of the Historian took place on Wednesday at the Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Calixto Garcia Iñiguez, which, in turn, concludes the celebrations for the 45th anniversary of its Monument Complex.

In a previous exchange with those present, Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and its first secretary in the province, reflected on the importance of nourishing from the positive experiences left by history to build a better future.

Under the protection of the symbolism of that site impregnated with patriotic essences, the moment of celebration began, presided over by Arelis Marrero Guerrero, member of the Central Committee and the Provincial Bureau of the PCC, accompanied by Jorge Luis Aneiros Alonso, national president of the UNHIC.

Victor Aguilera Nonell, first vice president of the UNHIC in this northeastern territory, stressed that the Holguin branch is among those with the highest number of associates in Cuba, maintains a solid scientific development and has its own events in all municipalities.

Likewise, it holds fixed spaces with the support of several organisms, complies with the informative plan at the country level, collaborates with the press media and has participated in national events, with good results that give prestige to its organic operation.

Under the premise that local history fosters confidence in one’s own effort and strengthens faith in the destinies of the Homeland, a group of institutions of the province were recognized for the systematic support offered during 2023 and 2024, from several areas.

National Historian’s Day 1 concludes in Holguín

During the ceremony, national awards were given to personalities with an outstanding performance, such as the Fernando Rodríguez Portela Diploma, to Odalis Taimí Cabo de Villa Ochoa, for her results as a young historian; and the Joaquín Llaverías Martínez Diploma, conferred to Ana Leonor González Sánchez, for her merits in the historical archives.

José Antonio Portuondo Valdor, Gerardo Muñoz Aguirre and Complejo Monumentario Plaza de la Revolución received the José Antonio Portuondo Valdor Diploma for their advances in cultural history research, while José Abreu Cardet, Annia Elba Duarte García and Víctor Aguilera Nonell were awarded the Mayor General Máximo Gómez Diploma for their merits in the field of military history.
