This facility and also the Iberostar Gran Packard, Iberostar Grand Trinidad and Iberostar Selection Varadero hotels, awarded with the prestigious endorsement, ratified in the silver category, defend environmental policies that, in addition to complying with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, comply with the legislation in force in the place where they operate.

Alexei Torres Velázquez, marketing director of Iberostar Cuba Hotels & Resorts, commented exclusively to ACN that this recognition, conferred by the world’s leading research, evaluation and certification group for sustainable tourism destinations and organizations, based in Australia, supports environmental practices in the travel and tourism industry on a global scale.

This certification must be revalidated annually through on-site audits and it is not until the fifth year that one can opt for the gold insignia, and up to 15 years to aspire to the platinum, after demonstrating the long-term commitment of international organizations, added the executive.

Torres Velázquez stressed that the oceans are home to a large part of the biological diversity, which is why a series of measures have been implemented in all the group’s hotels to minimize the use of single-use plastics, which is why more environmentally friendly resources, such as wood, are used in the rooms.

Iberostar Cuba Hotels & Resorts manages 20 hotels on the island, and in all of them it promotes the creation of spaces to encourage good recycling practices among its clients, likewise, it defends the use of responsible fishing sources and is committed to the adoption of a responsible tourism model, so it works on the implementation of a quality service in line with the preservation of the environment.
