Gibara spinning mill contributes to the substitution of imports

The contributions to import substitution programs stand out among the results of the Inejiro Asanuma Spinning Mill, located in the municipality of Gibara in Holguin province, a leading industry in textile production in eastern Cuba.

Iosvany Segura Leyva, technical director of this entity, stressed to the ACN that one of the tangible examples is the manufacture of the plastic spool of the core of the 100 percent cotton yarn ball, the company’s main line.

He said that these components cost approximately 80 euro cents on the world market and are currently manufactured in one of the workshops with recycled materials.

The executive also explained that these cones are reusable, which contributes to the country’s economic savings and reduces the production costs of the industry, located some 30 kilometers from the Cuban City of the Parks.

In addition, the vitality of the machinery is maintained through the replacement of foreign spare parts with Cuban alternatives, including the replacement of belts with chains and the manufacture of filters.

The spinning mill is also diversifying its work towards other lines such as pillows, multi-purpose cloths, spring mattresses, mopping blankets, resulting from the use of surpluses, he indicated.

Since its founding on May 21, 1961, Inejiro Asanuma has expanded its manufacturing to 23 items in textile garment workshops, non-woven elements, mattresses and plastic productions.

The factory was benefited in 2018 with modern technology, which allows the yarns to compete with their imported counterparts, contributing to the country’s economic savings in sectors such as tourism.
