Holguin ranked eighth in the LX National School Games

The province of Holguin finished in the eighth place, three steps below what was proposed, in the recently concluded LX National School Games with the presence of around nine thousand athletes from the 15 provinces and the special municipality Isla de la Juventud in 31 sports.

As expected, the representation of Havana, with 615 points, conquered the school sports competition and was accompanied on the podium by the provinces of Santiago de Cuba (487) and Cienfuegos (460).

The placement of the provinces from fourth to tenth place is as follows: 4-Villa Clara (449), 5-Granma (436), 6-Matanzas (394), 7-Camagüey (373), 8-Holguín (366), 9-Pinar del Río (324) and 10-Sancti Spíritus (309).

The most outstanding sports among Holguin schoolchildren were baseball and cycling which achieved first places, pentathlon second and tennis with a third place.

Other disciplines with good results were badminton, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and sailing, all in fourth place, in addition to the fifth places achieved by chess and artistic swimming.

Holguín received recognition for excellence in the organization of Volleyball (f) for schoolchildren and youths, pioneer and school chess and baseball for schoolchildren.

President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez wished in Havana success to Cuba’s Olympic and Paralympic delegations that will participate in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
