Topics related to adolescent pregnancy, drug use and sexually transmitted infections are some of the issues dealt with in the summer courses for health promoters, which started in Holguin last July 8th with the participation of leaders of the Federation of High School Students (FEEM) and other young people interested in the topics from the provincial capital city.

According to Infomed Holguín’s publication, the participants receive training and preparation on the prevention of addictions, drugs and violence. This course, which takes place at the Provincial Center of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology (CPHEM), has been organized with classroom lectures and practical activities and will be held in the summer.

According to Dr. Rosario Hernandez Diaz, a member of the Provincial Department of Health Promotion and Education, “from July 15 to 19, the second version will be held with the participation of FEEM students of the Nursing Branch of Comandante Aridez Estévez Sánchez faculty, and those from the Vector Technician Training, will also be part of this preparation as integral health promoters in these topics.

Students receive explanations from professionals in charge of provincial programs on sexual and reproductive health and addictions, through summer courses that provide them with the tools to those interested so that they can carry out health promotion actions in their own communities, among their neighbors and relatives, and show how much today’s youth can do in favor of social benefit.
