Holguin in 2nd National Meeting of Socusap

The 2nd National Meeting of the Cuban Society of Public Health (Socusap), which celebrated its half-century of existence on July 10, is being held in Havana with the purpose of exchanging on current health challenges, social determinants, public policies and global challenges.

From the topics of research, teaching, administration and innovation, presentations are presented with results related to the health sector throughout the country. Five professionals from the province of Holguin are taking part in the event with national scope and international participation.

According to one of the participants of the territory, María de los Ángeles Salermo Reyes, Doctor in Science and teacher of the University of Medical Sciences of Holguín (UCMHo), “important health topics developed in the province are exposed, which allow integrating scientific researchers from all over the country to carry out the presentation of their results and papers regarding the work that is being developed in each of our provinces”.

Referring to her research, the academic pointed out that it deals with the results of the management and implementation of the One Health approach in the province of Holguin, important results from the One Health approach that allow us to show how much work is being done and how much progress we are making from this approach, she concluded.

Other participants from the territory in the event are Dr. Fernando González Isla, president of this chapter in the demarcation; Doctor of Science Verónica Velázquez González, who proposes a Model for job training of the biostatistics resident during on-the-job education; Dr. Orlando Antonio Terrero Lamar with a System of actions to implement the Elderly sub-program and Doctor of Science Elianis Ocaña Samada, who participates with the research on Management of technology transfer for Public Health.

During two days of work, there was also a dialogue on current public policies, strategies, organization and economic bases that support health activities, the evaluation of the new processes of renewal of primary health care and their implications for health services, as well as legal, ethical and organizational issues within the framework of public policies from the premise of “One Health”. In this way, various activities developed since January 2023, when the call was launched to celebrate this anniversary, are summarized.

The Cuban Society of Public Health welcomes specialists, managers and institutions of the health sector, a reason to articulate and improve their work, the result of a long history of work that began in 1974.
