With the awarding of the Náyade Proenza Grand Prize to third-year student Cristian Alvarado Corrales, the María Dolores Rodríguez in Memoriam singing contest, created by the Holguín branch of the University of the Arts and held for five days in this city of Holguín, came to an end.
Alvarado Corrales, who also received the first prize in the second category, in declarations to the Cuban News Agency, expressed his gratitude to the entire teaching staff for his training and explained that the contest was a way of appreciating the result of the time dedicated to study.
I did not take the contest as a competition, but as a motivation and encouragement to continue to improve myself and forge my professional and personal values,” she said.
The jury, composed of 10 exponents of the lyrical art in the territory, awarded the first place in the category made up of students of the preparatory course and first year to tenor Pedro David Montoya Pérez, and the second prize went to soprano Milena de la Caridad Morales, while the second prize in the category for second and third year students was won by Yoandra Miguela Correa.
The prizes awarded consisted of an acrylic medal with an accrediting diploma and the exoneration of the winners to the singing exams of the present course, taking into account that the objectives of the study program were fulfilled in the contest.
With the goal of promoting artistic education in the territory, the competition, in its first edition, paid tribute to two figures of bel canto in the country, María Dolores Rodríguez and Náyade Proenza, former directors of the Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater and professors at the Holguin branch of the University of the Arts.
