The transportation, so far this year, of a little more than 34 million passengers, thanks to alternatives among which is the use of leased buses with itineraries established by means of contracts, had great weight in the fact that the Cuban province of Holguin was the venue of the national ceremony for the Transport Workers’ Day, held this Friday.
During the celebration, it was also highlighted that under the principle of creative resistance to face the intensification of the US blockade, the recovery of the railway activity continues, which is materialized in the stable service of the Holguín – Habana train, the reestablishment of the Holguín – Antilla and Holguín – Guantánamo trains and the reconstruction of motor cars.
Likewise, 11 ferrobuses are active on 21 approved routes, among them 9 hard to reach rural areas; the recovery of these means continues with the adaptation of Diana buses and improvements are being made on the branches they use, including the construction of turnpikes.
Likewise, in the operation of the Port-Transport-Internal Economy chain, the entry of regulated products of the basic food basket, mainly those prioritized such as rice, has been fractioned, which has required port workers and drivers to extend working hours at night and on weekends.
One of the most touching moments of the day was the awarding of the “José María Pérez Capote” Distinction, conferred by the National Union of Transport and Ports, by Joel Queipo Ruiz, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary of the organization in the province, on the chest of a group of workers, who have been working uninterruptedly for 20 and 25 years of exemplary work.
Another memorable moment was the warm ovation given by those present to José Ramón Ricardo Sarmiento, once he was awarded, for 50 years of work, the recognition for Life’s Work, conferred by the Ministry and the National Union of the branch.
Also present at the ceremony were the Governor of Holguín, Manuel Hernández Aguilera; Roberto Ricardo Marrero, Vice Minister of Transportation; and Katia Labrada Vidal, General Secretary of the branch union.
