Jorge Baudilio Vega Abascal, a health professional in Holguin, devised a predictive model of cardiovascular disease based on artificial intelligence, based on a study of a small population of Cubans who were followed for five years in Primary Health Care.
According to the specialist in Internal Medicine of the Polyclinic in Velasco town, in the municipality of Gibara, “this work was based on the increase in morbidity and mortality of cardiovascular diseases, as a global health problem and the functions or estimations that Cubans have of developing a disease of this nature, as an asymptomatic person in a period of time of five to 10 years”.

According to its author, the novelty of this scientific research lies in overcoming some of the limitations of traditional models.
Cardiovascular diseases cause a high degree of mortality, morbidity, disability and limitations. In the province of Holguín at the end of 2023, these diseases were the first cause of mortality, hence their high incidence shows the need to improve the quality of life of these patients and to respond to the growing demand for care.
Globally, artificial intelligence is used in the health sector for the benefits it provides, among the best known are greater accuracy in diagnosis and treatment, personalized care and better monitoring of patients.

Therefore, the fact that in Holguín the first steps are being taken in this area translates into one more option for the integral medical assistance to patients.
For the contributions made, this proposal was recently awarded one of the prizes in the section of scientific articles, during the last edition of the Annual Health Prize Competition at territorial level.
