National event to be held in Holguin for Transport Workers’ Day

In spite of the blows of the U.S. government blockade against Cuba and the shortage of fuel and spare parts, the more than 6,600 workers in the transport sector in Holguin manage to ensure that hemodialysis patients do not stop receiving medical services or that buses with several years of operation continue to transport passengers. For these and other reasons, the eastern province was selected to host the national event for the Transport Workers’ Day, which is celebrated every June 28th.

According to information published by the newspaper Trabajadores, other reasons that made the territory worthy of this recognition were the achievement of the National Vanguard Collective Status of four entities -Mypime Estatal Meca V, Ecasa, UEB Cubacatering and Transferraz UEB Rafael Freyre-, and the designation of six others as Outstanding at the country level.

Yaima Hidalgo Aguilera, secretary general of the Provincial Transport and Ports Union, also mentioned the participation of the members of the Movement of Innovators and Spare parts  manufacturers in events such as Soluciones Cuba last year and in this 2024, the donations to Orphan Children Homes, such as those normally made by Agencia RUN Holguín, Cuba Catering, ECASA and the non-state workers of the cab agencies, very humane work that is highly recognized.

Workers detail that as regards the missions of the sector itself, in spite of the difficulties with fuel and the deficit of parts, progress is being made in the creation of new forms of management such as leasing to non-state workers.

The hemodialysis service provided by cabs benefits more than 200 patients who come to the provincial hospitals from any municipality three times a week. The Provincial Transport Company also provides the railbus service to the far back places of the territory.

The union leader pointed out to Trabajadores that in the case of the railroads, the Holguín-Tunas and Antilla-Holguín services were incorporated. In aviation, it was possible to reestablish the Holguín-Havana domestic flight with two weekly frequencies.

She also highlighted the work carried out in the Port of Vita to guarantee the transfer of the basic food basket, as well as the cabotage works in the ports of Antilla and Moa.

She also pointed out that the province will reach June 28 with the satisfaction of having incorporated this year into the transportation system the Ecotaxis (electric tricycles), which are a bid to change the energy matrix and promote savings.
