The Cuban Railways Union reestablished the Antilla-Holguín and Holguín-Guantánamo routes, which have been inactive for a year, with the aim of offering more services that will increase passenger transportation and improve mobility along this routes for the summer season.

Lázaro Llanes Lemes, deputy director of the entity in the territory, explained to the Cuban News Agency that as a result of the population’s suggestions, these two stretches, which had had to be withdrawn due to difficulties such as the lack of locomotives and fuel shortage, are once again included in the itineraries.

In the case of the Antilla-Holguín train, a route that links isolated communities in five of the 14 municipalities of the province, it will have a frequency of Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, departing at 4:15 in the morning from the Antilla station and returning at 4:20 in the afternoon from the provincial capital, he said.

With a price of 82 and 41 pesos for adults and children, respectively, and a capacity of 340 passengers, the train will be combined with the motor car “El Pocholito”, bound for Las Tunas, whose departure is delayed by one hour, for 6:30 am, he said.

The executive also mentioned the recovery of the Guantánamo-Holguín bus, which will operate every Wednesday and Saturday from the easternmost of the provinces, leaving at 6:15 in the morning at a cost of 137 pesos for adults and 69 for minors, and leaving back from the Cuban City of Parks at around 2:00 in the afternoon.

He also added that the sector is working on the expansion and diversification of its services in spite of the problems they face, such as the poor technical condition of the locomotives, the high demand for fuel and the lack of lubricants, for which reason they continue with the strategy of rescuing and restoring motor cars.

At present, this project, promoted by the government of the territory and chained organizations, is progressing with the repair of a second locomotive and its trailer, and the contracting of a third one, which is in the west of the country, is being prepared, he pointed out.

For this summer season, the Cuban Railways Union in the territory maintains four fixed services, among which are the Holguin-Havana national route, the connection with Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo, the interprovincial motor car and a local train.
