Starting today, the Ateneo Villena-Botev Bookstore of the Provincial Book and Literature Center and its culture club “Libros a la carta”, will host a good part of the professional program of the Celestino Short Story Prize, which in its 25th edition returns to the city of Holguin between June 10 and 15.
This was announced by the organizing committee of this contest, through the official channels of Ediciones La Luz, publishing house of the Hermanos Saíz Association and main manager of the Prize.
Among the various proposals of the theoretical section, in charge of the writer and journalist Erian Peña, include panels on the 25 years of dedications of the event: the 25th anniversary of the publication of the short story “Flora y el ángel” (Flora and the Angel), by Rubén Rodríguez, first winner of the Celestino Prize; the 40th anniversary of the physical disappearance of the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar and the 110th anniversary of the birth of the “greatest storyteller”, Onelio Jorge Cardoso.
Thus, the first of these panels is entitled “Rubén, Flora and an angel twenty-five years later”, formed by writers Eugenio Marrón, Rafael Inza and Robert Ráez, along with professor and researcher Grettel Herrera.
In reviewing the extensive work of Ruben Rodriguez from Holguin, we will recall the main titles published by the main titles published by the journalist and editor, such as “El final de los finales felices publisher, such as “El final de los finales felices” (The end of the happy endings), dedicated to the children and adolescents, as well as the novels “Majá no pare caballo” and several books of short books of short stories, among them “El año que nieve” (The Year I Snow), which won the Alejo Carpentier Prize and the Critics’ Prize.
At another time, Celestino will approach the work of Julio Cortázar, author of “Rayuela”, an iconic novel of Spanish-American literature. At the panel entitled “Julio Cortázar, the Cronopios Speak”, will include the participation of writers from writers from Holguin Rubén Rodríguez, Lourdes González and Emerio Medina, all members of the jury of this edition of the Prize, together with Eduardo Manet and Mario Eduardo Manet and Mario Bellatin.
The paradigmatic work of the author of “Francisca y la muerte” and “Taita, will also be revisited in the panel “Onelio Jorge Cardoso, 110 years of the “Cuentero Mayor Cardoso, with the voices of professors Lino Verdecia, Marisela Messeguer and Manuel Lino Verdecia, and Manuel García Verdecia, on the morning of June 13.
Finally, on June 14, there will be a panel discussion entitled “Celestino alza el with the participation of writers Ghabriel Perez, founder of the contest, together with Ruben Rodriguez (1999), Rafael Inza (2007), Robert Ráez (2020), and Néstor Robert Ráez (2020) and Náthaly Hernández Chávez (2023), all winners of the Celestino Award.
They will be accompanied by Adalberto Santos, a member of the event’s organizing committee and responsible for the edition of many of the award-winning titles.
In addition to these suggestions, there will be presentations of the essay “La mirada del ingenuo: Celestino antes del alba (2017), by Yailén Campaña and the book-art art book “Flora y el ángel”, produced in collaboration with Ediciones La Luz and Cuadernos Papiro, under the care of promoter Andrés Zaldívar.
