Eddy Suñol Theater celebrates its 85th Anniversary

With an artistic gala that represented the history of the institution since its beginnings, Holguin celebrated the 85th anniversary of the Eddy Suñol Theater, main coliseum of the Cuban City of Parks.

A top quality cast with the participation of the dance companies Codanza and La Campana, the oral narration group Palabras al Viento, Rodrigo Prats Lyric Theater and the Holguin Chamber Orchestra, shared the stage to commemorate the place’s opening day (June 2, 1939), under the name of Wenceslao Infante Theater.

The show, under the artistic direction of maestro Orestes Saavedra, was an opportunity to pay tribute to artists such as singer María Luisa Clark and pianist Frank Fernández, whose careers are closely linked to the emblematic art deco colossus, erected in the vicinity of Calixto García Íñiguez Park.

The Eddy Suñol Theater distinction was also awarded to Jorge Hidalgo Pimentel, Gilberto González Seik, Julio Méndez Rivero and Ricardo Ronda Chacón, for their contributions to the city’s culture.
