Holguin FCBC highlights works of social impact in 2023

The completion of around 20 works of social impact in sectors such as health and tourism, is one of the results attained by Holguin branch of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Goods (FCBC) during the year 2023.

Carmen Hernandez, deputy commercial director of the branch in the territory, at the meeting held on Wednesday, highlighted that among the most important works concluded during the year, the expansion of the Holguin Psychiatric Hospital and the restoration and setting of the perinatology room and areas of the on-call staff of the Vladimir Ilich Lenin University Hospital stand out.

In addition, the general management office and the roof of the Lucia Íñiguez Landín Clinical Surgical Hospital were repaired, and the design and installation of decorative false ceilings, lighting, hydraulics and sanitation of the microbiology laboratory of the Octavio de la Concepción y de la Pedraja Pediatric Hospital were carried out, she added.

The impact of what are known as eco-woods, made from plastics from waste recycling, was discussed by Pedro Almiral, leader of the artistic group Zeus, who highlighted the benefits of these materials in the construction of buildings and supports such as ramps and platforms in hospitals for the use of the physically handicapped.

Iliuva Leyva Sánchez, member of the Arcai artistic creation project, presented the results obtained through four lines of work, among which she highlighted the work in homes for children without family support and in vulnerable neighborhoods, as well as the training of young people in the careers of Cabinetmaking and Crafts.

He also stressed that one of Arcai’s objectives is to rescue Cuba’s cultural heritage and identity, which is why it markets products and souvenirs that reflect the idiosyncrasy of the territory, in addition to trying to link science and art to contribute to the individual formation of each of the project’s members.

Manuel Hernández Ramos, director of the Holguin branch of the FCBC, commented that despite the fact that this is the year in which the greatest number of plastic arts pieces have been sold, it is necessary to look for alternatives to obtain the necessary materials for the realization of the works and to give participation to the artists as well.

He stated that it is of great importance for creators to present projects to be financed by the Fund, since it is necessary to promote institutional collecting and ensure that the plastic arts endure in the history of the country.

There is a magnificent level of demand on the part of the creators who focus our work objectives on the difficulties, because we have a creative and committed force of more than 28 thousand people who surpass themselves every day, said Arturo Valdés Curbeira, national director of the FCBC.

The Cuban Fund for Cultural Goods promotes and commercializes the works and services of the creators of plastic and applied arts, aimed at the development of aesthetic taste and the defense of the cultural values of society, distinguished by the authenticity of their proposals.
