Holguin Culture workers analyze work done in 2023

Culture workers in the province of Holguin held this Thursday their annual assembly to see the work done along 2023.

In the reading of the report and its subsequent debate, achievements, results and deficiencies of the sector last year were shown.

The meeting recognized personalities in the field, socio-cultural projects, culture promoters and art instructors.

The Oral Narration Company Palabras al Viento, Holguin Symphony Orchestra, Eddy Suñol Theater, among other cultural institutions, stood out in their artistic commission and creation.

On the occasion, Vice Minister of Culture, Lizette Martínez Luzardo, presented the Distinction for National Culture to teachers and pedagogues in recognition of their contributions to the formation of several generations of artists in the country, among them sculpture Lauro Hechavarria.

This distinction was also awarded, post mortem, to the pedagogue, artist and founder of the Provincial Center of Fine Arts José Ramiro Ricardo.

For the comprehensive cultural management of the municipalities of Moa, Báguanos and Holguín they were recognized in the meeting.

Also, the work done by Rachel García Heredia as provincial director of the sector for five years.

In the debates, concerns were expressed, including that of PhD. Yuricel Moreno Zaldivar, director of the Provincial Center for Fine Arts, who said that “it is necessary to explore public spaces and economic actors to locate the work of our creators and its commercialization. There is a sector that imposes tastes that do not correspond to Cuba’s cultural policy”.

She also said that more than 200 activities were carried out by that institution”, including exhibitions, conferences, workshops, contests and other events, at the time she stressed on the importance of the standing out the legacy of local artist Cosme Proenza.

Among the topics addressed in the annual balance were also the management of publishing houses and the work of artists.

The results in creation and awards achieved by publishing houses such as Ediciones La Luz, the most comprehensive publishing house in the country directed by poet Luis Yuseff, the recognitions in the XXXI Havana International Book Fair and the City Awards stand out.

Also the awards received by writers Ronel Gonzalez -National Prize of Poetry America Bobia 2023 with the notebook Albatros de Baudelaire- and Emerio Medina -Ibero-American Short Story Prize Julio Cortázar 2023-, among others such as the National Prize of Literature 2022 to poet Delfín Prast.

Other laurels of the Culture in Holguin in the past year were the Extraordinary Prize in the XI Lyrical Contest Radio Philharmonic 2023, in Lima, Peru to the soprano Senia Lopez Camejo, soloist of the Lyrical Theater Rodrigo Prats, and the prize to the Best Script in the National Festival of Humor Aquelarre, developed in Havana for the show “Bufo Nada”, of the duo Caricare.

In this cultural passage stood out the 30th Romerias de Mayo, the XXIX edition of the Ibero-American Culture Festival, the XVII edition of the Gibara International Film Festival, the Culture Weeks in the 14 municipalities of this province and other important events throughout the territory for a total of more than two thousand activities with more than two million participants, approximately.

Historian Ms.C. Mayra San Miguel stressed the importance of the digital magazine El Yayal and highlighted Ms.C. Hernel Pérez Concepción, historian who won the City Prize in History.

Sara Blanco Pérez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), congratulated the workers of the Culture sector after exchanging on the current policy of cadres in the country, the ephemeris and the challenges for Cuban culture in the current context.

For her part, Arelis Marrero Guerrero, member of the Provincial Bureau of the PCC, expressed satisfaction with the results of Culture in the province and the unity manifested under the leadership of Rachel García Heredia.
