Holguin Boxer Catlhen Gonzalez, bronze medal in national event

Holguin boxer Catlhen Gonzalez, 75 kilograms, won the bronze medal in the first National Boxing Championship for women after losing by RSC in the first round, this Sunday, Havina rep Yoana Rodriguez in the semifinals held at the Rafael Trejo Arena in the Cuban capital city.

The big surprise of the day came with boxer Yadira Rodriguez, from Cienfuegos, who eliminated Arianne Imbert, bronze medalist in the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games of San Salvador 2023, in the 66 kg category.

The other boxer  representing Holguin in the competition, Aleanne Cespedes in the 50 kilograms, lost in her debut 3-0 to Norelis Sanchez, from Camaguey.

The final program of the contest, scheduled for this Monday, was as follows:

50 kg: Karen Cantillos (Havana) vs. Dayensi Valdés (Villa Clara)

54 kg: Cleidy Rodríguez (Mayabeque) vs. Dayana Núñez (Santiago de Cuba)

57 kg: Enisyeny Alba (Granma) vs. Legnis Calá (Havana)

60 kg: Melani Girado (Villa Clara) vs. Diana Pérez (Santiago de Cuba)

66 kg: Yaquelín Estornell (Guantanamo) vs. Yadira Rodríguez (Cienfuegos)

75 kg: Dayira Mesa Santiago de Cuba vs. Yoana Rodríguez (Havana)

According to Ecured, boxing arrived in Cuba from the United States in the first decade of the 20th century.
