Four teams in semifinals of Holguín baseball league

With 2 wins and no defeat, the teams of Holguín, Mayari, Sagua de Tanamo and Gibara swept and jumped into the quarterfinals of the XLVI Provincial Baseball Series.

Defending champion Sultanes of Holguín, with five hits, one error and an excellent performance by César Concepción in the hill, blanked (2×0) the squad Mineros of Moa, who had produced three hits and made an error.

For the winners, the offensive highlights went by Andry Agüero (1-2), and a run batted in; Michael Álvarez, with a pair of doubles in three innings, and Luis Miguel Santiesteban, (2-3) and a run batted in. The defeat went to Yoiler Matos.

Playing home, Cafetaleros of Sagua defeated Colosos of Urbano Noris (5×3), thrower Pablo René Cabrejas won and Álvaro Cobas lost.

Sagua hitter Yorlis Bravo batted 2-3 and drove in a pair of runs.

Piratas of Gibara, also as hosts, again surprised Vaqueros of Calixto García, this time 8×2 with a great performance by pitcher Yadier Bornot and defeat for Dainier Cabrera.

Gibara team produced 10 hits and made two errors; Liuber Concepción (2-3) was the man at the offensive and a run batted in, and Sergio Peña, 4-2 with a pair of runs batted in. The defeated team achieved five hits and made one error.

Finally, Alegres of Mayarí, visiting the land of the multi-champion Tigres of Báguanos, enjoyed a 5×2 success with outstanding work by the winning thrower Yoandri Fonseca and the save by Yuderkis Guzmán.

For the winners, with 11 hits, Edward Magaña, 2-2, two triples and a run batted in, and Luis Lawrence and Luis Gustavo Castañón (2-4), the latter with a triple and a run batted in. Báguanos, six hits and no errors.

The semifinals will this Friday, two games apiece ball park, at Feliú Leyva stadium (Holguín vs. Mayarí) and at José Abre field (Sagua vs. Gibara).
