In the context of the 52nd anniversary of the Day of Homage to the Construction Workers in Cuba, and in the place where the Levisa dam is being built, a national ceremony in recognition on Builder’s Day was held on Wednesday in the municipality of Mayari, in the province of Holguin.
Surrounded by the Cuban flag and with the protagonism of young people, the meeting remembered the words of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, and raised his legacy among Cuban builders.

Representing them, engineer Yurima Puentes Oliva proudly expressed the commitment and satisfaction of participating in the construction of works for the benefit of the nation.
During the ceremony, nine workers with more than 20 years of work in the sector received the Armando Mestre Martínez distinction, while Manuel de Jesús Mainá Calunga and Rafael Adalberto Torrealba Macle received the Faustino Pérez badge, which accredits them as 50th anniversary in the sector.

The homage was presided over by Joan Abel Palmero Pérez, member of the Provincial Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba in Holguín, Ángel Vilaragut Montes de Oca, first vice minister of the Ministry of Construction in Cuba, Manuel Hernández Aguilera, provincial governor, Dagmar Abad Noa, First Secretary of the PCC in Mayarí, Idalmis Serrano Gómez, general secretary of the Provincial Committee of the CTC and Geovanis Martín Gutiérrez, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power in Mayarí.
During the ceremony, workers Yaima Hernández Claro and Roberto Pablo Camba Corrales, from ECOI-17, received the Ocho de Octubre seal, the highest award conferred by the National Association of Innovators and Rationalizers.
As a surprise received with joy, the participants in the event listened to the message of Inés María Chapman Waugh, Cuban deputy prime minister.
“From each stone to take the wonder of nature and turn it into a work, a work that serves for the future, the growth of the nation and development, is a marvel…that is why today we congratulate the builders, for everything they do and the challenges they face,” Chapman Waugh said.

The performance of the dance group Explosión Latina and the vocal quintet Remix, added this Wednesday applause from the art to the Cuban builders, while the General Secretary of the National Union of Construction Workers, Misael Rodríguez Llanes, meant the significance of the celebration in the place where one of the emblematic works of the East-West Water Transfer grows.
Rodriguez recalled the leadership and exemplarity of Fidel Castro and the revolutionary consecration of Armando Mestre Martinez, martyr of the sector, and stressed that the celebration of this day recognizes the dedication of the 132 thousand members of the National Union of Construction Workers.
