Cuba President in Iran, packed and fruitful agenda

Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, head of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran, and Cuba President Miguel Díaz-Canel reaffirmed on Monday the will to continue strengthening bilateral relations, especially in the parliamentary field.

During a meeting held on Monday, Bagher Ghalibaf stated that Díaz-Canel’s visit to this nation marks a new beginning in the relations between both countries.

The Cuban head of State stressed the importance of reflecting and supporting all that has been achieved in bilateral relations at inter-parliamentary ties.

The Presidency of the Republic of Cuba informed on its X account that during the meeting, Díaz-Canel conveyed greetings from National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament) President Esteban Lazo and called upon the Iranian leader to visit Cuba.

The Cuban president thanked Iran for its historic support for the Cuban nation’s demand to end the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than six decades.

Díaz-Canel and Iran’s President Seyed Ebrahim Raisi held official talks, which he described as confident and expressed the solid ties of brotherhood between Havana and Tehran.

Díaz-Canel recalled that then-President Fidel Castro visited Iran 22 years ago and affirmed that this sister nation sets higher targets as long as scientific and social growth.

Cuba and Iran have a solid friendship of almost 44 years, which started on August 8, 1979. Both countries are the target of sanctions by the United States.

President Miguel Díaz-Canel arrived in Iran on Sunday as part of a Middle East tour that included official visits to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

Cuban president visits Iran’s Pasteur Institute

The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel visited Monday the Pasteur Institute of Iran, a research center that maintains a close relationship with Cuban science.

During the tour of the facilities, the head of state described as an honor to be in that institution of excellence, which demonstrates that collaboration is the model to follow when it comes to the health of the peoples, reported the Presidency of Cuba in its X profile.

“We have come this far because of the historic leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro, who is present as an expression of the solidarity he taught us,” Díaz-Canel stressed.

In the context of the visit, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Pasteur and Finlay Vaccine Institutes that will allow for increased cooperation in the field of biotechnology.

The two scientific centers have had a model of cooperation for several years and during the COVID-19 pandemic, alliances were strengthened based on the Cuban immunogen ‘Soberana’.

The Cuban leader affirmed that there is a commitment to strengthen the links that unite us, for the welfare of our peoples.

As part of the official visit to Tehran, Diaz-Canel was received on Monday by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, Grand Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei.

The parties fondly evoked the historic meeting with Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz (1926-2016), 22 years ago.

The Cuban president arrived in the Islamic Republic of Iran on Sunday night to pay an official visit to consolidate the close ties that unite both nations.
