The First Scientific Conference on the History of Public Health, held at the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin (UCMHo), was a memorable meeting, as it was the first precedent of its kind in Cuba.
The scientific activity is part of the program for the celebration of the half century of the foundation of the Cuban Society of Health Administration, which included the presence of Doctor of Science Alcides Ochoa Alonso, president of the Cuban Society of Public Health, who gave the opening lecture of the event, a moment that led to a wide debate on the preservation of the historical memory of the Health System.

At the scientific meeting, which was attended by health professionals, other agencies of the central state administration and students of Medical Sciences, in addition to presenting research related to the knowledge and dissemination of the historical memory of public health, recognition was given to personalities of the sector who are an inseparable part of its history, among them Pura Avilés Cruz, José López Clemente, Lourdes Arjona Cedeño and Pedro Martínez Mahiques.
Whether by means of a free theme, digital poster or specialized conferences, the participants socialized research results on the history of health institutions in the province; the historical development of health services, departments and technologies; the evolution of medical education and research; milestones in the historical development of the provincial health system and the life and work of public health personalities.
Thus, this First Scientific Conference on the History of Public Health was an ideal space to promote the development of scientific activity, disseminate the use of technologies and create academic and scientific alliances and collaborations.
The Cuban Society of Public Health is an organization that welcomes specialists, managers and institutions of the health sector, a reason to articulate and improve their work, the result of a long history of work that began on July 10, 1974.
