The First Provincial Scientific Conference of University Libraries held in Holguin from October 2nd to 27th was of great relevance with the participation of more than 250 health professionals and students of Information Sciences.
It was attended by experts from Holguin, other Cuban provinces and countries such as Angola, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, the United States and Venezuela, which constituted a success for the event, which reached the proposed objectives, not only for Information Sciences, but also for Medicine and other related knowledge.
Sixty-one research papers were presented and discussed virtually through the event’s platform. The scientific committee awarded three prizes and an equal number of mentions.
The winners were Iliana Leyva Domínguez, and a group of authors, from the Library of Pedro Díaz Coello teaching polyclinic with the research: The use of social networks in libraries for the promotion of library services.
Also Armando Salvador Escobar Rosabal, and team of authors, from the Provincial Center of Information of Medical Sciences of Holguin with the work Automation of the registry of human resources of the Provincial Network of Information of Medical Sciences of Holguin. And Sureima Callis Fernandez, and a team of authors, from the province of Santiago de Cuba with Bibliotherapy for the psychological wellbeing of the elderly.
This first event created a space to promote collaboration among universities, libraries, information centers and academic institutions. It also encouraged debate on topics such as intellectual property and copyright; promotion of reading; technologies for information and knowledge management; information skills, library outreach, among others.
Sponsored by the Chair in Health Information Sciences Doctor Mirtha Gertrudis Santisteban Santisteban, the Cuban Society of Information Sciences Holguin Branch (SOCICT), the Cuban Society of Librarians (ASCUBI), the University of Medical Sciences of Holguin, the Provincial Center of Information of Medical Sciences and the University of Holguin this scientific meeting was part of the activities in homage to the Day of the Cuban Culture.
The invitation is made to participate in the II Provincial Scientific Conference of University Libraries, planned to be held on line from April 23 to May 20, 2024, with a face-to-face session on May 21. Undoubtedly, it is an opportunity to manage the knowledge generated from the university libraries of Holguin, Cuba and other parts of the world.
